Love, Poetry and Revolution - Wednesday 26th April 2023

Last night tiredness won, and I didn't manage to finish 'Nausicaa'. So, instead of starting the day with a walk, I'm going to finish the chapter ahead of tonight's lecture/discussion. I've managed to finish the episode ahead of 8 am, which means I still have time to make breakfast before I start work. I will hopefully have time to write something about 'Nausicaa' and my response to it after work. Son #1 went off to work early and son #2 is not far behind, though he's heading to the airport to meet his gf, who is arriving from Costa Rica by way of Newark. A little after lunchtime they arrive back from the airport. It's good to see them together again.  Perhaps I'll get a chance to practice my Spanish? Back to work. My last meeting today was rather later than usual and, as is so often the case, there were post-meeting actions which meant I finished closer to the lecture than expected. The guest speaker on 'Nausicaa' is Prof. Anne Fogart...

Tales From The Crypt - Sunday 14th November 2021

In contrast to yesterday, not a normal Sunday.  Firstly I slept quite well, which is a rarity, sleeping through the arrival of the carer, and waking up just before the alarm.  That does hide the fact that I did wake in the middle of the night, for a couple of disturbances in the time-space equilibrium, maybe for a few hours, who knows? The other unusual-ish feature of today is that I'm heading off to the south coast mid-morning, so once I leave, the post will end until Monday's, probably. A load of things to get organised before I leave, not least packing for a sleepover, but also chores like washing and so on. A little later than planned I'm ready to leave, and so I say goodbye to E, and to the boys + gf, then head off.  See you tomorrow, probably. Nadine Shah / 'Fool ' / 'Fast Food'   [[]]

Lockdown Diary - Friday 17th July 2020

Friday comes around again, my second since the operation last week. I'm still in recovery mode, so I haven't jumped out of a plane, abseiled down a cliff, kicked a Lion in the nuts or taken 4 tabs of acid. Got to be on better than my best behaviour and certainly not at my daredevil worst. Given I haven't been able to do the normal things I do day-to-day (hang on to those nuts Leo), what in the name of all that exists on Earth and in Heaven have I been doing? Reading, obviously: 'The Code of the Woosters'; 'Ulysses'; 'Hawkwind: Days of the Underground'; and Uncut magazine (about John Martyn making the album 'Inside Out'). Music, naturally: latest albums from Johanna Warren, Nadine Shah and Magick Brother & Mystic Sister (a band, not the Gong / Daevid Allen song with a similar name).  Chuck in a bit more of 'A Psychedelic Sensibility' on Bandcamp for good measure. Late morning m y elder sister rang and we had a catch up, mai...
