Love, Poetry and Revolution - Tuesday 9th May 2023

It doesn't feel as if today should be Tuesday.  I guess this is in part due to the fact that Q isn't normally off work on a Monday, whereas I am always not working on Mondays. Perhaps. Just feels odd that today is Tuesday. Whatever feeling I have, it IS Tuesday and I have work to do. Onwards and upwards. As usual, not much to say on a working day.  It is a very sunny day which is invigorating. No doubt tomorrow will be wet. Q has to go to Bury for work this afternoon, so she puts in a brief appearance before driving east. Worked later and when Q returned we had dinner and watched the end of 'The Night Agent'.  We now have the final two episodes of MAFSA to watch, when we get time. Until tomorrow. PJ Harvey / 'A Child's Question, August' / (Single) [[This single from a forthcoming album (her first in something like seven years) is very hypnotic. It has a 'folk horror' feel to it - I don't think it would have been out of place on 'The Wicker Ma...

Love, Poetry and Revolution - Sunday 16th April 2023

I wake up a little earlier than usual for a Sunday but am feeling energised as I am going to be driving to Liverpool later to spend the coming week with Q, with the usual caveats. Tense? The past sure is tense. (Apologies to Don Van Vliet)  My plan was to leave at around ten, after the second, key, carer visit of the day. I had packed all my clothes already, so what could go wrong? Not all the time was spent packing, to be fair.  There was breakfast, clearing up the kitchen, taking the rubbish out, another carer visit, making coffee for the journey and so forth. Not that it matters, as I don't have to be there by a set time. I am now in the 'pool. The journey included a detour by way of the M54 and the Shropshire  countryside owing to the closure of part of the M6. Time to relax.  Q made a wonderful roast lamb dinner which we all enjoyed together. Afte...

Lockdown Diary - Friday 1st May 2020

Had planned to start the day with another run but I've (temporarily, I hope) buggered a muscle or some equivalent meaty construct in my left calf and it doesn't want to play ball, let alone run. Been doing stretching exercises and whacking it with a cricket bat during the day to see if that will fix it. So far, not so good. (I should point out, lest anyone should doubt my approach, that one of those things isn't true. It was a mallet really. No, I lie, I've not whacked it with anything. Yet. Oh, and by the way, yes, I do believe 'buggered' is the correct medical term for it. Look it up.) Work again today, so my activities have been limited, in fact limited largely to work, though I've had good chats with a mate in Berlin and another in Bracknell. Tomorrow it'll be the 'Cs'. Both of them talked to me about work, even if only briefly, and after the call one of them even sent me a technical question he was seeking my opinion on - is there no esca...
