Tales From The Crypt - Friday 2nd July 2021

Image
Not such a good Friday for me because though the weekend does follow, it's only two-day weekend as I have to work on Monday. On the plus side next weekend I'll be off Friday through Monday - four whole days! - but I have to get there first. Worst of all I will miss yoga on Monday 😞 Work dominates the day, with the next instalment of being a lead architect starting at 10:00, before that catching up with other stuff. Part way through the day I decide to volunteer to take part in a work experience exercise we're running for the whole of next week for year 13s across the country. Should be interesting and fun. Although there is a plan, none of us have any idea how it will go - seat of the chair excitement! The day closes with an intro to the case study next week's students will be working on - there's a whole bunch of us doing it and everyone seems up for it. We're having a takeaway tonight because our plans have been changed because son #1's gf is staying unti...

Lockdown Diary - Saturday 1st May 2021

The return of 'normal' Saturdays.  On the plus side I am fit enough to go shopping and do all the other chores, give or take the things I need wait two or three more weeks before doing.  Unfortunately today looks like being dominated by rain, though it did hold off until after son #1 and I had done the shopping. After shopping, as we ate our breakfast together, son #1 and I sat and chatted for a while, mostly about music (what else?) after my update on his mum's state of health.  In a strange echo of something I wrote yesterday, I found myself discussing the Led Zeppelin curse, Aleister Crowley, the alleged curse on Jimmy Page (is Robbie Williams his nemesis?), and Boleskine House on the shores of Loch Ness with him. After that interlude, son #2 returned to bed, and I got on with the washing. Do you actually exist if you don't do washing? Discuss. Over the years since my wife became seriously ill and as she - as in the person that I first met, married, enjoyed life and ...

Too Tame?

It's been five years since Tame Impala's previous excellent album, 'Currents', so the latest album has been eagerly anticipated. Kevin Parker has been in demand ever since 'Currents' and has written songs with a variety of artists and also been involved as producer on a number of albums, so he's not exactly been resting.  Back in March 2019 the first new song emerged, 'Patience', which seemed to augur well for what was expected later in the year. 'Patience' is a funky ballad which wouldn't have sounded out of place on 'Currents', though it did up the disco/dance vibe a notch or two, but I'm cool with that. It certainly upped the anticipation for the new album - so far, so good. This was followed up in April by 'Borderline' which came as something of a surprise. How so? Weeeell, as songs go, this was pretty limp. I listened to it over and over in the hope of finding something, but found an empty centre wit...

New Choons Three (Of Three)

This post has been sitting here, incomplete, for several days now. I haven't been able to put any words together that would sensibly accompany this. Still haven't, so it's just about the song. Probably. 'Patience' is the first new song since Tame Impala's 2015 album 'Currents' and is a taster for the new album due in the summer. Continuing in the funkier direction that was hinted at on 'Lonerism' and was even more apparent on 'Currents', it seems to be more of the same. That being said, I like it, but I don't think it would have been out of place on the previous album.  Listen to it, see what you think. Dig those crazy bongos, maaaaan ;-)
