Love, Poetry and Revolution - Wednesday 5th to Thursday 6th April 2023

Image
There's really very little to say about Wednesday.  It rained.  Then it rained some more, until eventually Q and I headed out into Bude. Our plan was to go for a trip to a coffee shop, maybe grab some lunch and then to a bookshop we'd seen earlier in the week. (My idea, though Q was happy to indulge me.) In the end, we went to a café called 'Life's A Beach' overlooking Summerleaze Beach and had lunch and coffee.  I had a superbly cooked whole Bream, with Samphire and new potatoes.  It was rather excellent. Off to the bookshop next where, much against the odds, I came out with a couple of books. Big surprise! On the way back we stopped off to buy some food for the evening.  Q was cooking jacket potatoes whilst I joined the 'Sirens' episode of 'Ulysses For All'.  'Sirens' is an episode whose theme is music and is structured like a symphony in words, and borrows Wagner's idea of the Leitmotif, in written form.  It's a wonderful episode -...

Tales From The Crypt - Sunday 22nd May 2022

Image
Slow start to Sunday, with an excellent breakfast of bacon, chipolatas, poached egg and toast, followed by toast and marmalade. Who could resist? Q is such a good cook. Rather than make a coffee, it's such a glorious day we've decided to walk down to the quay and drink coffee in the sun, while Rome burns. Before we go we hang the washing out as it may just get dry during our peregrinations. The sun is great, the company is even greater (or should that be greaterer?) and into the bargain, I've exceeded my brisk walking target yesterday and again today. We walk back in the sun and decide, though it's past lunchtime we're still too full for lunch, a feeling enhanced in my case by being unable to resist (I did try, for a second or less) an almond croissant in the coffee shop. Before starting work (well, work in Q's case, whereas I'm booking a birthday meal (mine), fannying about on this site, setting my Bullet Journal up for next week, and having a few message e...

Lockdown Diary - Friday 11th December 2020

Last working day of the week, and the year (sort of/more or less).  This also means it will necessarily be another busy day in a very busy week. Made a quick early trip to the shops to get some Christmas items and a decent coffee (well, decent apart from the fact I have to have Almond milk now, but I've covered that, so I'm not repeating that whole spiel!) Work is the main theme for the rest of the day. The evening was brightened by a call from my 'baby' sister: no earth shattering revelations or amazing news, it's just good to talk and stay connected. More work. Time to cook dinner comes around before I've had a chance to listen to music or do anything as a buffer between work and different work.  There's only one remedy, whilst prepping dinner - we're making cottage pie, using a different recipe which includes lentils!! - I'll slam on my main Spotify playlist.  What surprises will it bring tonight? Dinner is served and we all convene to watch anoth...

Écoute Chérie

I love this song.  It was the second song I heard by Vendredi Sur Mer (not that it matters, but the first was 'Chewing Gum'). Having heard those songs I've had to track down everything I can by her... Her first full length album, 'Premiers émois', is due out in just over a week and looks like it will be the album to break her into the big time.   Time to put on those dancing shoes...
