Love, Poetry and Revolution - Monday 24th July 2023

A long, long time ago (in a galaxy...) a counsellor said she couldn't imagine how I was fitting so much into my life (which was also the start of the process that led to me working only four days a week and getting a cleaner, but that's a long story) and now I find even the extra day off I have a week gets filled and I don't have time to do half the things I want to do. I need more time. I have an appointment this morning at a local health centre for a scan owing to my impending (who are you kidding?) old age. Lots of stuff to get done either side of that. I'm back from my scan and have the all-clear, so no further investigations and no further check-ups.  Result! After lunch I downloaded camera photos from son #3's graduation, including a video.  I've started sharing these with family and will share more widely over the next few days. Time again. Late in the day I got a message from an OT about E's bedding and what we can do to help keep her head comfortabl...

At the end of today, I'll be mid-way through the working week. Even better than that, this evening is 'Ulysses For All', always a highlight of my week. A busy working day came to a hectic close with two project colleagues setting up impromptu 1-2-1 video chats.   There's a bit of magic required in re-connecting of cables from my work laptop to my personal laptop so that I can use the monitor, speakers and external camera. He has some interesting perspectives on both the book and the chapter, including the wonderful observation that the chapter is founded upon a dad joke.   Jonathan is a wonderful advocate for the book and its advocacy of love for humanity. I love this course. Q is out tonight at an event to celebrate Iftar, but before she leaves she makes dinner which I eat during the lecture. Q's back and has had a wonderful evening meeting new people and learning more about Islamic cu...

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it's back to work I go...which probably means this post will be a little short, but hopefully not sleepy or dopey and definitely not grumpy. I started the day with some exercises: weights, standing on one leg and press-ups (solo variety). This is part of my weight-loss and exercise programme.  Not only that I plan  to carve out time to walk today - hoping to hit thirty minutes of brisk walking. After lunchtime meditation, and before eating, I went for a walk. My walk was around sixteen minutes, and so if I manage to repeat it before it gets dark, I'll exceed my target. Yesterday, I wrote that after I finish reading 'Edge Of The Orison' I shall probably read Miki Berenyi's autobiography. I was wrong. This won't happen. As always, I have multiple books on the go, and I will finish ' Faith, Hope and Carnage ' by Nick Cave and Sean O'Hagan, before I  read Miki's autobiography.  I do have several novels on the go, however I do baul...
