Love, Poetry and Revolution - Tuesday 30th May 2023

It didn't seem to make sense that today was Tuesday, given that 'everyone' wasn't working yesterday.  I think yesterday felt like a Sunday, and therefore today should be my non-working day, which, sadly, it is not. Apparently, I must have had some kind of bad dream as I screamed in terror in the early hours and my heart was racing.  I don't recall what I was dreaming but it must have seemed and felt both real and frightening. Work now takes precedence. For both of us. Once Q returned and I finished work, we went for a mini shopping excursion. On our return, Q made dinner with a little help from me, after which we sat down and watched another 'FUBAR' (having explained earlier what the abbreviation means). Let's call it a day. "It, you are a day." Job done. Robert Lloyd / 'Part Of The Anchor' / 'Me And My Mouth' [[ ]]

Another walk to start my working day. It's sunny again. PTL! I don't know about you, but I often get phrases stuck in my head which keep coming to mind. Today I can't get the phrase ' Là ci darem' out of my head.  The eagle-eyed amongst you will know that this is Italian and is actually a shortened version of ' Là ci darem la mano', which is the title of a duet from Mozart's opera, ' Don Giovanni'.  As a general rule, I consider opera to be a musical form which is akin to torture, and thus this tune is not one I am familiar with, though I'm sure you guess where I heard the phrase. At the moment it's rattling around my brain and I would like it to stop. {In case you aren't a fluent Italian speaker (I'm not), the full song title translates as, ' There we will give each other our hands'.} Opera, schmopera, it's time for work. After work, I suggested we walk to the local pub near the ford, and so I was joined by sons 1 ...

I wake up feeling thirstier than a camel lost in the dessert, but at least I don't have the hump.  Overnight I drank about three-quarters of a litre of water and I'm still thirsty.  I'm beginning to suspect that the lamb we at last night may have been grazing but the Dead Sea, just prior to its untimely demise. Either that or someone accidentally bumped into the chef as he was seasoning the meat. When I awake there's a guest in the house, though an expected one.  A pleasant surprise. Q and I have a lazy start which is underpinned by a lot of water consumption.  Q is off to work for an applicants day whilst I go and get my barnet trimmed at the local barbers.  It being Liverpool, there was a lot of banter and it was suggested that I get a Mr. T trim, I declined.  The topic changed to football and when we discussed who I supported, the hilarity increased for them.  It was all good light-hearted banter to brighten my morning. I'd hung the remainder of the...

Lockdown Diary - Friday 10th July 2020

Another day feeling really drained. Don't know if there was a period of post-operation euphoria (is there such a thing?) or if it's as simple as the drugs wearing off and the body's repair mechanisms kicking in. Whatever has been going on, I feel incredibly low on energy at the moment. I am eating, so it's not lack of food. The day has been spent indulging my twin pleasures of music and literature.  I listened to last Sunday's 'Freak Zone', which was OK, but had nothing really exciting in it.  I started the 'Lotus Eaters' chapter of 'Ulysses', another of the chapters which I especially like: the focus is still on Bloom as he wanders Dublin doing various errands including collecting a letter from a woman he's writing to. I also read a lot of 'My Sister, The Serial Killer', which I'm more than half-way through now.  I'm planning to read Ian McEwan's novella, 'The Cockroach', over the weekend (certainly by next...
