Tales From The Crypt - Saturday 30th July 2022

It's my sister's birthday! Yay! Happy birthday! I hope she has a wonderful day celebrating with her children and still feels well tomorrow 😇 Mostly a normal, old-style, Saturday though maybe a bit more chilled than in the past. Life's too short. All of us visited E in hospital in the afternoon, though for reasons of logistics and timing, son #1 visited separately, first.   E looked comfortable, but we all agreed her colour is not normal and she is not at her base level.  Son #2 summed it up well when he said, "if she was like this at home I'd call for medical help" (slight paraphrase, but that was the gist of it). She did cough a bit during the time we were there and when I felt her chest as she coughed I could feel a rattling inside.  That's probably the only concrete sign that anything is abnormal. It doesn't look like she's going anywhere in the next day or two, but who knows? The rest of the day pales into insignificance.  Let's do it agai...

Lockdown Diary - Tuesday 9th March 2021

Back to work.  Feet firmly put in it. Hopefully I can salvage something from the wreckage, but it's really not looking good. The extent of the damage will be clear over the next 24-36 hours. Fingers etc crossed. Work Went for a late afternoon walk with son #2 to the Post Office and back, hitting my target of over 30 minutes brisk walking, and also activating my hernia. Work again... Later this evening I have a video call with friends planned.   Good catch-up with friends for 90 minutes or so, courtesy of Google Meet, which was ended by the arrival of my dinner pretty much bang on 8:30 p.m.  Look forward to another catch-up soon, maybe in person, outdoors, if the restrictions are lifted according to schedule? Dinner. 'South Park'. Sleep.  This seems to be the song for the prevailing winds. The Cure. 'Same Deep Water As You'. From 'Disintegration' [[]]

Lockdown Diary - Friday 28th August 2020

I had a lie-in until about 7 a.m. as it's the last day of my leave, but I was up for the first carer call just after 7, then after she'd left I got on with showering, exercising, getting dressed and having breakfast. I have various things to organise, not least to make sure son #3 has actually thought about what he needs for university, which potentially he starts 3 weeks from today (I say potentially because things are not yet finalised, but it's looking like he'll be starting on our wedding anniversary) Apart from that I'm going to revise the next module of the Mulesoft training course, which I hope will take no longer than an hour. Cripes! The morning has gone and I have no idea how I've used it all up.  Sons 2 and 3 are making lunch - bacon and eggs today - and son #1 and his gf are up and about. We watched an episode of 'Peep Show' over lunch then split up to do whatever we had to do. Fully recharged by lunch, I'm going to tackle Mulesoft now.  ...

A dream of favours, a favourable dream. They know how they believe that they believe that they know. Wherefore they wail.

[Friday 23rd November 2018 and Saturday 24th November 2018] I can't make sense of it. Looking back on what seemed to be a positive sign at the time, but appears to have been an isolated event viewed from today. Was it less positive than it appeared, so the passage of time brings realism or does the passing of time tarnish reality? Ultimately it really makes no difference as I end up at the same place. [Tuesday 23rd October to Friday 26th October ] Four consecutive days travelling to and from central London, by train and tube, are more than enough to remind anyone why they don't ever want to commute into London again. Ever. Combined with all-consuming work and you have a recipe for...whatever the cure is. [The post title is a quote from the poem 'Alone' by Edgar Allan Poe]

"Loonely in me loneness. For all their faults. I am passing out. O bitter ending "

[Friday 12th October 2018] Pretty much self-explanatory... [Post title is quote from the final chapter of 'Finnegans Wake' by James Joyce]
