Top 10 Songs of 2019

Gotta start somewhere, though clearly not with arithmetic, and the start is my top 10 songs of 2019.

There's a Spotify playlist imaginatively titled 'Top 10 Songs of 2019' which currently stands at 25 songs, but I've hardly started, so ya know, like all good things, it's gonna grow...oh, and just so as y'know, they're in no particular order, no need to take offence Ed and I really do like your haircut, Julie!

Frankly, I can't be arsed to make an equivalent YouTube playlist (the tools! the tools!) but will splatter, smatter and repeatedly batter this post with YT songs from the list, as the urge takes me.

The further I delve into 2019, the more songs I find, so I guess I should probably take the advice of the Skints...

After the "crowbar-ing" of that song into this thread, I should be a little bit more careful with the next one, or I'll end up

Enough of this tomfoolery, heading off in another direction, here's 'Emerald Kiss' by Julie's Haircut

After a brief visit to Italy, it's time to make a great leap across the pond to Brazil and Boogarins

Head north of a few thousand miles and we find ourselves with Moon Duo and their alleged disco influenced 'Stars Are The Light' from which comes 'Lost Heads'

Even further we come to Canada, and Montreal's Marie Davidson with the Afrodeutsche remix of 'Day Dreaming' which is way better than the original...

Followed hot on its heals by one of the most, exuberant and infectious groove-inducing songs of the year, take it away Lizzo...

Off on our travels to Crete, via London, where Professor Skank teams up with Dreadzone for this Greek-infused slice of 'Cretan Skank'...

Steve Lacy (of 'The Internet' fame) released a solo album in the first half of the year and when I heard this song from it, I fell hook, line and sinker...

Looking back, I see that the videos here don't reflect the number of indie / guitar songs on the Spotify list, so, to redress the balance, here's a favourite from a great album, Dublin's Fontaines D.C. and 'Roy's Tune'

Gonna close, for now at least, with a song I first heard way back in the first few months of 2019, a song that came out of nowhere, a song that's over almost before it get's going, but also, a song that you just want to play again right after it finishes, take it away, Pregoblin...

[Chose the fan video, 'cos I don't like the band's video, in the same way that I chose not to use the video for Lana Del Rey's 'Doin' Time', in that case because they changed the song/tune to fit the video - which is a heinous and unforgivable act...in most cases (see me after school for exceptions to this rule)]

[In general, my aim is to choose songs of the year from singles or standout tracks from albums that don't make my top 10 albums list: this year I may have got carried away, primarily 'cos with one or two exceptions, I don't yet know what's in my top 10 albums. Mea culpa. O felix culpa.]
