Lockdown Diary - Wednesday 1st July 2020

Up with the larks in order to be ready for yoga at 7 a.m.  Zoomed in and sat on my mat by 5 to 7, ready to go.

Yoga over, I got showered and dressed, made breakfast and sat at my desk logged in to work at around 8:45 a.m. Looks like today is going to be another day sat hunched at my laptop typing and drawing. I don't think I'll have much to say about today as it'll be all work.

The best part of the day was an evening Zoom call with friends from school, some in the UK, some in France.  It was a fun catch up with added wine.  Son #3 made dinner which I ate part way through the call.  We're going to do another catch up next Wednesday, allegedly as a pyjama party because I'll only just have come out of hospital. 

After the call, a return to reality and bin night.

Today's tune is 'Desperanto' by Marianne Faithfull from the album 'Before The Poison'. Song written by Nick Cave.  It's an unusual song, that's all I'll say.  I like it. Make up your own mind.

A busy Saturday with most of the usual things crammed into a shorter time than usual as I'm due to be going to a party at around 5 p.m. at a Thai friend's house. There's going to be food, drinking and dancing, so it should be a good evening / night. I have to try and be reasonably sensible (yeah, right!) as I have to recover in time for the gig on Sunday evening. In the end I don't find time to read the papers as I have this month's book club book still to finish - I don't think I'm going to find time today, so I could end up taking this one to the wire... This post will have to remain one of the shortest for a while: my taxi has arrived and I don't think it very likely I'll write anything else after I get back (which will probably be tomorrow anyway!) Lockdown Diary - Thursday 15th April 2021

Feels like I've been in lockdown for ever, and every time things ease, what I can do seems to be even more restricted.  Like now.   I haven't got much to say as not much has happened.  Read a fair bit: started reading both 'Medical Grade Music' (by Steve Davis (yep! him, the snooker bloke) and Kavus Torabi) and 'Jolly Lad' (John Doran, of 'The Quietus' fame's autobiography.) Spent a couple of hours on the phone to my mate in Berlin, putting the world to rights. As the day progressed the carers noticed that my wife's cough, which she always has for reasons I'll not go into at this time, was sounding different, maybe a little more chesty. I listened and agreed that it did sound so not long after they left for the final call I emailed the community matron asking if she had time to pop in and check my wife over tomorrow. Lockdown Diary - Sunday 28th February 2021

There was a possibility I'd've got up earlier today to chat with the first carer, but this proved unnecessary and instead I stayed in bed, trying to sleep. I don't seem to have had any real side-effects from the Pfizer Covid vaccination other than a slight tenderness in my arm around the injection site. Felt a bit like a bruise, but no sign of bruising to the skin around the site. Next one please! (At the GP surgery they told me the next one should be in about 11 weeks. Let's hope so.) As noted previously I am finding life a bit of a slog at the moment, and this is not just down to Covid and being stuck at home.  The need to change my life has never been more apparent. It's making my non-working days a real slog: I just feel like I am wading through a bog, submerged up to my waist. Stuff to do, somehow it gets done. Tales From The Crypt - Wednesday 16th February 2022

As a consequence of yesterday's funeral, today is the first working day of this week. I'm still dogged by the headaches that have been plaguing me for several weeks now and have decided to take action, as in action beyond just taking pain killers like sweets. I'm thinking the pain may relate to my sinuses, so I'm taking NHS advice on how to relieve sinus pain/possible infections.  I'll try that until Thursday and if it doesn't work, I'll have to go and see a doctor because it is driving me insane (in the membrane!) Work will dominate the day, so this'll be another of those legendary not-much-to-say-days. Son #1 was supposed to be going back to Birmingham uni today but as the day wore on I felt he was leaving it a bit late and suggested he stay and we'd get additional dinner. He agreed, especially given I suggested pizza from Dominos, and that's what happened. Bin night, but so windy I decided not to put the recycling shizz out until tomorrow morn...

Tales From The Crypt - Saturday 28th to Sunday 29th Saturday May 2022

Saturday on the south coast begins with breakfast before heading to the shops to get a few things sorted.  It seemed like a good opportunity for a coffee break and a chat before heading back to do a bit more shopping, this time of the food variety. Managed to do a fair bit of walking before returning to watch more of the final series of 'Killing Eve'. Lamb meatballs with potato and salad for dinner, washed down with some wine (in my case, at least), before returning to KE. Woke up on Sunday later and had a lazy start to the day before a trip out to collect some mail from the collection office.  Whilst out I called the hospital to see if E is going to be coming home tomorrow and was told this would be the case. Hooray! After returning home, we headed back to the shops for a diary planning session (there is so much going on in June, July, August and September) over a couple of coffees and lunch.
