Work

Recent events have consigned me to a not so good place.  It seems like I can't fix things, which makes it even more difficult.  Just got to sort things out, even if only from my perspective. Things may go a bit quiet for a while.

Work

Usual Wednesday rubbish culminating in dinner, 'Mr. Robot', then a welcome escape from reality.

This tune has been rattling around my brain for a few days now, so this should exorcise the demon: 'Music Plans' from Yellow Magic Orchestra's (aka YMO's) album 'BGM' ('BGM' being an abbreviation for 'Background Music', a deliberately ironic title, particularly given the drum patterns and sound palette at work on the album, which was at the forefront of technology when it was released)

It's been a while since my last post, longer than I anticipated when I decided I didn't need to post daily. Since then, which was a little over a week ago, a lot has happened though quite a lot of it can't appear here. Work has been especially busy as my work on the project is coming to an end.  Unusually, design uncertainties are increasing rather than decreasing as things wind down, which means I am doubly busy with new stuff as well as trying to ensure I wrap up and tidy all my documentation. There's been lots of monitoring activity keeping me busy while I get to grips with the joys of SDR.  It's opened up a world of possibilities that inevitably come with new challenges including the need for better antenna or better-sited (higher, outdoor) antenna and RF filters on top of the RF amplifiers I've also required. Lockdown Diary - Tuesday 31st March 2020

First working day of the week for me, at least.   I've been fairly busy, so this won't be much of a diary entry. Keeping up with the 'Wake, got in touch with a couple for friends online and arranged a call with one tomorrow.  Written a brief letter to another, 'cos that's what it's all about at the moment - communications. Work continues to present challenges and things could change quite dramatically over the next couple of weeks, but for now I carry on as normal. Yet again, work has filled my day and I haven't managed to take a break outside, but tomorrow and for the rest of the week I intend to put in a thirty minute slot to go out, walk and get some fresh air.  I have at least managed to keep up my daily 20-minute meditation, which is something, though not a substitute for exercise and fresh air. The day has been rounded off with a takeaway from our local Italian restaurant - makes a change from cooking, and no social interaction closer than 2...

Love, Poetry and Revolution - Saturday 30th December 2023

Christmas is over for another year, and what a fabulous Christmas it was.  We all (me, Q, sons 1, 2 and 3, with guest appearances from E's brother, his wife and Q's daughter at different points) spent a week away in North Wales at a wonderful large house on on hillside, overlooking the sea. Lots of festive fun, food and films ('Man Up', 'Click and Collect') with wonderful company. It was so good to be away, for the first time in a long while.  E was being looked after by one of the carers, who stayed with her each night, so she wasn't alone.  It a big deal to do this, but I think I and the boys (young men) benefitted from the break/respite, even if it did unleash the inner adolescent at times. Q and I are about to head off to Berlin for a week now. An opportunity to spend time with a good friend and his wife, a chance for Q to meet more of my friends, and also a chance for us to celebrate her birthday out of the country. Another early morning walk to kick start my day, before being glued to the screens. Nurse! The screens! As far as the day went, mundane is the word. Greece, of course, is a different word. The only out of the ordinary event was a visit by a former near-neighbour to collect a letter wrongly addressed to our house (in the middle...).  I haven't spoken to her in a long time and so it was good to catch up. I do like talking with people. I do like people. Generally, I guess. She said something along the lines of 'you'll definitely be going to heaven', to which I naturally replied that I doubted it. Work comes to an end and I arrange a call with my big sis.  A phrase that sticks in my mind is 'your life is always uncertain'.  It was good to catch up. Tales From The Crypt - Monday 21st February 2022

Up early to head home after an unexpected additional overnight stay. Work starts at 9 for some, so I need to leave before then, but first we need breakfast and I need to re-pack.  It's still very windy, but at least dry, but there's one more job still to do: an examination of the roof front and back to see if we can spot where the two slates that have blown down originated. Spotting where the slates have come from is not as easy as we might have hoped and my time is running out. I need to get ready to head northwards on what I imagine will be a lively journey, given that the wind is already picking up and the gusts are getting stronger. Home before 10:30 and time to get back into the things that need doing here. Late afternoon I finally have time to read the papers for the first time in quite a while.  Finished reading the papers, time to clean the oven ahead of the engineer's visit tomorrow!
