Tales From The Crypt - Monday 24th January 2022

Different, and very pleasant, start to the day and then drove home in the morning.  On arriving home late morning, it was back into the usual round of chores and organising.  

As last Monday I had planned a chilled day but ended up making a couple of shelving units and then sorting out a cupboard in the hall and then the hall itself. Pleased with the results: lots of rubbish identified and disposed of, coats put away in the cupboard and the hall looks way tidier and cleaner. Excitement!

In the afternoon I had a call to say my mother-in-law is being transferred to a hospice today, which is good news - it's safer than the hospital, for starters.

Dinner tonight is home-made lasagne and carrot cake cheesecake, all made at the weekend making son #2 and I's dinner both enjoyable and easy.  We watched a programme about Billy Connolly together which really made us laugh, especially me.

The day ended in the usual way..

We're both working today, though Q is in her office whilst I'm at home and have monopolised the dining room table with two laptops and a monitor. During my first call at 9, my project manager remarked "you have a different background", to which I responded, "I'm in Liverpool", and there that exchange rested. Usual rules apply for today, so very little to say...probably. I'm only working for two days this week, so I'm halfway there at the end of today. Q came home for lunch and we assembled the bed in the newly emptied front bedroom, ready for her mum's arrival from Australia tomorrow morning. My final work meeting of the day went on until later than expected, Q arrived home and I was still working for at least another 30 minutes. After dinner, I chatted with son #1 for a bit for an update on E and also how he is faring with his university assignment. Lockdown Diary - Monday 11th May 2020

The usual early Monday start so I can finish breakfast two hours before yoga at 10am. I banged my head yesterday evening in the kitchen. I only mention this because I have this inexplicable thought that I ought to go and begin digging over the ground where the main circular bush was removed today.  Perhaps after doing yoga it will pass? Most strange. Yoga was excellent as always and I particularly enjoyed it when the teacher said, after holding a pose for several breaths, 'take your last breath', which made me laugh, because, in some poses, I think it just might be! Not long after finishing yoga the nurse arrived for my wife's regular catheter change, during which time I had several calls to make, for her and for me.  Just as I'd finished the calls the lunchtime carers arrived and after some chit-chat and abuse about getting on with the garden... ...I went and began to dig over the newly cleared ground. This is absolutely overrun with roots and tuber-type things...

Lockdown Diary - Saturday 5th December 2020

Strap yourselves in for a roller coaster ride of activity today, starting with the usual early morning food shopping run, which has to be slightly earlier than usual as I need to get back for a half day guided meditation session. Full marks to son #1, who stepped up to the mark and was ready in tie to leave a bit earlier. Home, shopping over, time to put all the food away, eat breakfast and drink coffee ready for meditation, which has a 9:30 for 10:00 start. Even with the early shop, I only managed to get in to the session at ten to ten, which was fine, except that for some strange reason, though they could see my video, throughout the session I couldn't see theirs, so only had sound.  Luckily that's enough for most guided meditations, though it was a good job I do yoga, as the guided mindful movement section would have been tricky were it not for the fact that I knew the movements already. Love, Poetry and Revolution - Wednesday 18th March 2026

It's strange how words or phrases that you consider to be commonplace or part of a shared language don't always transfer to your children. After I showered this morning, son #3 was also going to take a shower. In jest, I said I was "done but not brown", which I thought was a good "off-the-cuff" pun. He didn't understand the pun, and so I had to explain (never the best way with puns or jokes) that "dun" is a shade of brown (greyish brown, officially), as used in the phrase "the dun cow". There are lots of pubs called "The Dun Cow" (look it up). There are als myths about them/it. Oh, well. Never mind. Whilst I was out walking, I was musing on this incident amongst other things and thought, 'I guess it's a bit like me reading Shakespeare and not understanding some of the phrases'. Like the line, "...Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo..." which many people believe (myself included, until I dug deeper) ...

Tales From The Crypt - Saturday 4th September 2021

A busy Saturday with most of the usual things crammed into a shorter time than usual as I'm due to be going to a party at around 5 p.m. at a Thai friend's house. There's going to be food, drinking and dancing, so it should be a good evening / night. I have to try and be reasonably sensible (yeah, right!) as I have to recover in time for the gig on Sunday evening. In the end I don't find time to read the papers as I have this month's book club book still to finish - I don't think I'm going to find time today, so I could end up taking this one to the wire... This post will have to remain one of the shortest for a while: my taxi has arrived and I don't think it very likely I'll write anything else after I get back (which will probably be tomorrow anyway!)
