Lockdown Diary - Wednesday 2nd September 2020

Very hectic start to the day, got up early to get everything set up for yoga at 7, and did some preparation for breakfast afterwards.  Did yoga but left early at 7:35 in order to get showered, dressed and make breakfast by 8 a.m. - rushing about the house up and down stairs setting porridge cooking whilst cleaning my teeth upstairs in parallel. Somehow I managed to get all this done with three minutes to spare, which I thought was good going. Had to skip press ups and weights - will do those in my lunch break, all being well. Who says you have to slow down when you get older?

(The course is being presented by someone in Italy, so when we take lunch break, it hasn't reached lunch time in the UK! Mind you, all the other attendees are in India, some five and a half hours ahead, so when we finish around 5pm, it's 10:30 p.m. for them!) Who says you have to slow down when you get older?

Just come back from lunch break - did my exercises and organised a couple of things that life (as opposed to work) requires me to do. Didn't have time for meditation, that's gonna have to wait until the course is over for the day.

Sons 1 and 2 are on their way back from the Lake District, with an expected ETA of 4:30 p.m., no doubt they'll return knackered.  Son #1's gf is likely to arrive ahead of him - cool that she's happy to do that: I like the idea that she feels comfortable to be here without him. That's what home is about. Not fancy furniture, nor the latest gadgets or the most up-to-the minute decor. Fuck that.

Back to the training course.

In the end the boys got back just after 5:30: the brief summary, probably only in a few words less than they uttered, was 'had a great time but glad to be home'.

Got my first subscribers-only 'The Quietus' monthly 'Low Culture' podcast yesterday, so I'm going to give that a listen tonight. 'The Quietus' is one of the best sites for interesting reviews of music, films  and books - every visit throws up something new, interesting and often under the radar. Hope the podcast lives up to the website's excellence.

Managed to listen to the podcast, in spurts due to lots of interruptions (sons, carers, phone calls), and it was a good start.  It was like listening in to a conversation between two mates, where the subject was music, books and films (subjects included Albert Camus, the film 'Trust', Britpop, Algerian disco music (!), and The Prodigy's debut album (more on that later!))

In amongst the chores, it being bin night for one, we had dinner and watched the second episode of 'The Bridge' together.  The lead female detective's character is unfolding and is proving to be a little weirder as the story progresses.

Now, I'll take your brain to another dimension: one of my favourite Prodigy tracks, from their debut album 'Experience', this is 'Out of Space'

[After saying yesterday I'd have less time to say, I've ended up writing more today than yesterday.  I guess being head down on the course for around 9 hours means I haven't had a chance to say much that isn't work, so this is my outlet!]
