Tales From The Crypt - Sunday 18th September 2022

A day of two halves: the first half spent at home 'celebrating' as much as possible, our wedding anniversary. 'Celebrating' is in quotes because the celebration aspects are rather limited these days. More like commemoration than celebration.

A quiet day was spent with E whilst reading the papers and getting the odd chore or three done. 

In parallel, Q is driving home from Manchester and as she gets close to home, I'll be heading south to join her.

I'm all packed for my delayed weekend and planning to work at Q's house on Tuesday, ready in waiting in the car until I get the tip-off that it's time to leave.

I finished the backlog of filing just before Q called to ask if I was on my way, which was my cue to set off.

The day ended on the south coast. Feet in two worlds. Past, present and future.  Forces pulling in different directions.

Still processing all this " Media vita in morte sumus" stuff. Not really any new words, to be honest.  As I wrote to a friend, at times I just feel like I want to run and run and run, never stopping, not coming back. Except I can't do that... ...so while there's moonlight and music and (please let there be)... Heard this courtesy of Rough Trade's 'Counter Culture' playlist (on Spotify), the home of cool, happenin' sounds for the painfully hip... Pretty much hooked from the opening sounds, hooked by the voice, the rhythm, the tune, and the undercurrent of melancholy contrasting with the upbeat bass line. It may be a throwaway pop/dance tune, but that is what life needs, a constant supply of fresh new disposable joy...

Love, Poetry and Revolution - Wednesday 26th July 2023

Busy day ahead with an important in-person meeting today, but starting with an unexpected trip to a post office because our local post box is inaccessible, tanks to City Fibre.  I'm wondering if there's anywhere locally that they're not digging? Wheels set in motion. So many alternative plans owing to the complexity of the situation.  Now I just need it all to come together... Tonight we're having our traditional Wednesday night meal and son #3 and I are 'making' it. We ate together and watched the first episode of ' Dreaming Whilst Black ', which was funny and very promising. Roll on the next one. Lots to discuss with Q before putting the bins out in the rain. Tales From The Crypt - Saturday 4th September 2021

A busy Saturday with most of the usual things crammed into a shorter time than usual as I'm due to be going to a party at around 5 p.m. at a Thai friend's house. There's going to be food, drinking and dancing, so it should be a good evening / night. I have to try and be reasonably sensible (yeah, right!) as I have to recover in time for the gig on Sunday evening. In the end I don't find time to read the papers as I have this month's book club book still to finish - I don't think I'm going to find time today, so I could end up taking this one to the wire... This post will have to remain one of the shortest for a while: my taxi has arrived and I don't think it very likely I'll write anything else after I get back (which will probably be tomorrow anyway!) Lockdown Diary - Friday 16th April 2021

Purpose. Porpoise. Lost.   An early morning check of my emails confirms that the community matron will be paying my wife a visit today, so that's a bit of good news. More fun on the PC as I confirm Saturday's shopping order with the help of all three sons.  I'm still not able to go shopping, though in all honesty, it's not something I miss, apart from the fresh bread, cakes and pastries from the market. After the main carer call the community matron plus community matron in training paid my wife a visit.  Oxygen sats were normal but her temperature was oddly low and the CM said previously my wife's temperature has dropped just before an infection takes hold. Listening to her chest via stethoscope found a rattling in her right lung and this confirmed she is just starting another infection. The CM was very impressed with the carers for spotting the signs so early and said we were lucky to have such good carers, which I absolutely agree with, as it's something I kn...

Tales From The Crypt - Saturday 13th November 2021

A fairly normal Saturday, though we do have additional guests in the form of son #1 and his gf. That being said, you'd never know it since I'm the only one up, naturally. Most of the day will be taken up in the pursuit of completing the usual set of tedious chores with the added incentive of a trip to the south on Sunday. Late in the afternoon (so technically almost early evening), not long before the final carer visit of the day, we finally all managed to be together to give E the rest of her birthday presents.  Having so many presents at once is a little overwhelming for her, I think, though she obviously was delighted to have her sons with her, even though son #3 was present via video link.  Another birthday over, with reasonable success - next stop the hurdle of Christmas. In the evening we all started watching a movie together, though son #2 left after he'd eaten and seen the start of the film as he planned an evening online with his gf.  So it was left to son #...
