Tales From The Crypt - Tuesday 6th September 2022

It's Friday, it's five to five, and it's Crackerjack!

Wrong on all counts, but for some reason, it popped into my head and so, here it is.  It won't mean much to most of you, but, hey, it keeps me amused. Little things...

It's obviously a working day, but I really didn't want to begin with that.

Whilst the first main carers of the day were here NRS called to say they thought the engineer wouldn't be able to make the agreed time when the carers return for the lunch call. I politely explained that we do indeed know how the air mattress works and yes we are sure that some of the cells are punctured and no, we can't accept a delay because E is developing sore skin, which is already red, where she rests on the punctured cells. I think this convinced her.

The engineer arrived a bit late, but at least while the carers were still here. E was already in her chair and the air cells were exposed (steady!) ready for him to check. Strangely, he initially trotted out the same line as the earlier representative had. After mansplaining it to the carers (as well as me), who played along nicely, they then politely asked if he'd just check the cells with the high-pressure pump he came with, just to be sure. Surprisingly(!), two of the cells were punctured and he had to replace them. To save face, he came up with a suggestion about flattening the bed every two hours, so that most of E's weight wasn't at the point where the bed is bent to keep E upright. That falls to me. Great to witness first-hand. No sniggering.

Shortly after they all left, the community matron arrived to do a check on E.  She has been coughing off and on, but he listened to her chest and said it was all in her upper chest, which is fine. I told him about the beginnings of pressure sores due to the bed and he arranged to come back tomorrow to check when the carers are here.

After all that, work was uninterrupted until after 6 when I got ready to go out for a curry.

Returned from the curry house after a fun evening with an old school friend.  This was the second time we'd done this in about a month, partly because last time he could barely get a word in as I had so much news! This time it was more even-handed.

Bed, books, music, sleep. Probably.
