Love, Poetry and Revolution - Tuesday 11th April 2023

It's always difficult returning to work after a week off, and today is no different. I just have to get on with it.

Unexpectedly the morning starts with sunshine and so I'm off out walking. I am trying to increase the amount of exercise I'm doing and get it to the point where I'm losing weight.  Oh, yes, that and eating less. That will probably help.

Whilst I'm walking Q and I have a chat.  Before I know where I am I'm back home, making breakfast and logging in.  

I've returned from cyberspace and the working day is over.

Tonight I'm making meatballs in a vegetable and tomato sauce (home made, ofc) with wholemeal pasta.  I start catching up on 'Blue Lights' (where I left off yesterday) and then, once quorate, we watch the next episode together.

Lockdown Diary - Good Friday (Friday 2nd April 2021)

It may be Good Friday, but it's actually going to be like any other Friday without work.  You can take it as read that all the usual things happened.  Nothing out of the ordinary. At some point in the day I sat down and read a chunk more of  'Hawkwind: Days Of The Underground: Radical Escapism in the Age Of Paranoia'.  It only covers the hey-day of the band up until 1980's album 'Levitation' and I'm now in the final sections with only the period from late 1978 to 1980 left to read, which is about 100 pages.  I have so much I want to read that it would be good to finish it before starting the next book club book. After reading, I briefly listened to some Hawkwind from the Hawklords to 'Levitation' period as it's a period I don't know that well as I was heavily into punk and new wave at the time and didn't listen to it.  Whenever I have heard any of it I haven't been that impressed either.  On listening to it now I've discovered tha...

Love, Poetry and Revolution - Monday 12th February 2024

After eighteen months of stability, it's been a while since the focus of these posts has been E, though that hasn't been the case in real life, of course. This past week has been very troubling with the onset of seemingly regular small seizures.  From our perspective we've been struggling to know if E's in pain and/or suffering discomfort, but increasingly there have been signs that she is. This morning I called the District Nurses to explain my concerns.  Whilst the nurse was here, E had several mini-seizures, and the nurse saw these and validated what I've been seeing. E needed pain killer and relaxant and she seems more settled, though there are still signs of seizures even with the medication. The nurse is going to contact both the Sue Ryder nurse and the GP, so I guess we'll have to wait to see what the next steps are. Canterbury Tales

I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist it - it's even the title of compilation by quintessential Canterbury band Caravan - but my musings on the album titled The Wilde Flowers could only have one title. It probably hasn't escaped your notice that Mr NineFeetUnderground is quite a fan of the Canterbury sound / scene (is it a 'sound' or is it a 'scene'?) - both past and present, so it should also come as no surprise that the release (or strictly should that be "modified re-release"?) of an album by the band who are the progenitors of almost every original Canterbury band should arouse some interest. [Aside: Even if it has escaped your notice I'm still writing about the album anyway. Tales From The Crypt - Tuesday 18th January 2022

After yesterday's unplanned office reorg, returning to work today seemed like a break! Nevertheless, the day will be very busy as I have a lot of meetings and things to complete, so there won't be a lot written here, I suspect. The office reorg has made working from home much easier, which I'm really pleased about. It's probably the onset of madness but I've also planned to reorganise the cupboard under the stairs with some new shelves and another clear out. Enough of that! I am still keeping up my walking schedule this week and will hopefully continue to do so, though the onset of darkness and work make this challenging at times. I made dinner and ate it while watching the last 30 minutes of 'Get Back', which seemed to fizzle out rather than end. It felt like it needed a commentary on what happened next as a closing section, but overall it was fascinating and well worth eight-plus hours of my time. ...and again the day ended in the way it often does... Tales From The Crypt - Friday 9th September 2022

Later today I'm off to the airport to meet Q and travel with her down to the south coast. Before then I'll be watching her flight travelling from Doha to the UK in between getting a few things done, such as a quick shopping trip and some clothes washing. I don't think I'll be writing much here as I'll be travelling for a fair chunk of the day. No day is complete without a call about E, and today it was the neuro-rehab consultant's PA wanting to arrange a consultant visit. There was mention of Botox, at which point I did explain the change in E's condition. Nevertheless, the PA still arranged the visit for next week, though I don't there's any point in wasting money on Botox. All the jobs are done, including packing for the weekend, and so once I hear from Q to let me know she's waiting for her luggage, I'll be heading off.
