Tales From The Crypt - Tuesday 13th December 2022

First day of work in the last week of work for 2022!  Usual rules apply!

Apart from today being another day in the grips of an icy blast of Arctic air, the only other thing of note is that the plumber is due back to inspect a leak that appears to be coming from where the tray and shower enclosure meet.  I suspect they're being a little stand-offish as they haven't been formally introduced.  A dance card has been marked for tonight.

This week's poem is an intriguing sonnet by John Donne, one that has both clarity and mystery. It's not quite in the spirit of the season, or perhaps it is?  Christmas foreshadows the end of the year, the death of one year and the birth of another.  It requires further thought.  Officially it's called 'Death, be not proud (Holy Sonnet 10)', and here it is:

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou are not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou'art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy'or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

The shower man cometh. He thinks he's identified who's not been properly introduced, and thus is in the process of cementing their full introduction. (When I say 'cementing' I obviously mean 'caulking'!)

After a bit of tidying up, we start making the dinner. I say 'we', most of it was done by sons 2 and 3. Once made, son #1, his gf and I sat down to watch the last in the current Frankie Boyle series.

Q's gone out to a work-related event tonight and is driving back from Bury as we eat, but when I go upstairs she's back and we talk before sleep.
