Love, Poetry and Revolution - Monday 10th July 2023

At the risk of this becoming a meta-blog, a big chunk of Monday was spent writing the blog post covering the Idler Festival.  In fact, part way through I decided not to write in as much detail as there was a danger I'd never finish it.

How did I spend the rest of the day?  I walked to the local deli to pick up lunch and a coffee, I read the weekend papers and a bit more of 'Faith, Hope and Carnage'.

Q came home early and we chilled before dinner and then began watching the movie of the 'Mathilda' musical on the pretext that Sindhu Vee is in it (which she is). There has already been an inordinately large amount of singing and dancing for reasons which I cannot fathom. Luckily, I have managed to find laughs several times.

We're off to bed early as we BOTH have to work tomorrow.

Remember, remember, the 13th August, especially when it falls on a Friday. Or something like that... Tales From The Crypt - Tuesday 19th April 2022

The last day's breathing space before E comes home.  That may sound bad in black and white. It certainly does when I read it back.  Although E is much better cared for at home and is happier in an environment where there are people she knows around her, there is another side to it.  For those of us who live with E's condition on a day-to day basis, it raises the stress level and stays high all the time, except when it goes off the scale. It means I can never fully relax and it's pretty clear that I sleep better when she is elsewhere, because I'm not constantly anticipating sounds that mean there's something bad happening or about to happen. It's also nice not to have the regular interruptions of carers coming and going. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the carers being here as I count them as friends, in fact more than that, I count several of them as extended family members.  Apart from the wonderful care and love they show E, they have kept me going thro...

Tales From The Crypt - Monday 13th December 2021

Today I'm heading off to Birmingham University to collect son #1, leaving as close to 9 a.m. as I can.  The intention is to get there and come straight back, or as close to that as his readiness allows. Almost as soon as I get back I'm taking sons 1 and 2 to the dentist - no peace for the wicked. Back from Brum and straight out again! It's now 3 p.m. and finally I'm home and very hungry, time for lunch at last! The afternoon disappeared in a series of discussions and changes of plan. I don't seem to have managed to progress any of the Christmas things I need to get done, but never mind. Spoke to the hospital for an update on my mother-in-law, but so far no real change. Lockdown Diary - Saturday 20th June 2020

Despite having a lousy night's sleep, due to the combination of taking the anti-depressant late and taking two antibiotics instead of one, which led to a lot of discomfort in my stomach, and in turn delayed me getting to sleep, I still managed to get out of bed at 6am. Once I was up and dressed a sequence of chores began starting with shopping.  Shopping was brightened today by the return of the bread girls to the market, sadly I won't be able to visit for the next two weeks, at least, but it was good to have a chat and to buy their lovely bread and almond croissants.  Returned home and got on with more chores before finally settling down to some breakfast.  Read the papers whilst finishing my coffee then got back on with the chores. Wall to wall excitement every day here.  I'm not really sure where the day went, though there were brief periods in which I read more of 'The Binding', 'Ulysses' and Private Eye, though not enough to account for the entire...

Love, Poetry and Revolution - Tuesday 3rd June 2025

June is underway and my bonce is still not back to normal.  I'm getting there, but one of the current drawbacks is that I need a lot of sleep. Don't get me wrong, it's feeling way better, I'd just hoped it would be as before by now.  Apart from pain, which I'm ignoring from now on, my emotions are out of control.  Probably a combination of lack of suppression now I'm drug-free and the aftershocks of February's event. Naively, I had assumed that the years of loss and grieving for that loss, alongside the therapy and counselling, would have made the final process easier.  I now feel that that was unrealistic.  Grief is a powerful emotion, and there are no straightforward laws or rules that govern how an individual might experience it.  That'll learn ya. Never content to deal with one major problem at a time, I've also been experiencing worse back pain (with consequences for my stability/balance).  I have seen a physio about it.   On the one han...
