Love, Poetry and Revolution - Wednesday 26th July 2023

Busy day ahead with an important in-person meeting today, but starting with an unexpected trip to a post office because our local post box is inaccessible, tanks to City Fibre.  I'm wondering if there's anywhere locally that they're not digging?

Wheels set in motion. So many alternative plans owing to the complexity of the situation.  Now I just need it all to come together...

Tonight we're having our traditional Wednesday night meal and son #3 and I are 'making' it.

We ate together and watched the first episode of 'Dreaming Whilst Black', which was funny and very promising. Roll on the next one.

Lots to discuss with Q before putting the bins out in the rain.

Today I'm heading off to Birmingham University to collect son #1, leaving as close to 9 a.m. as I can.  The intention is to get there and come straight back, or as close to that as his readiness allows. Almost as soon as I get back I'm taking sons 1 and 2 to the dentist - no peace for the wicked. Back from Brum and straight out again! It's now 3 p.m. and finally I'm home and very hungry, time for lunch at last! The afternoon disappeared in a series of discussions and changes of plan. I don't seem to have managed to progress any of the Christmas things I need to get done, but never mind. Spoke to the hospital for an update on my mother-in-law, but so far no real change. Lockdown Diary - Thursday 15th April 2021

Feels like I've been in lockdown for ever, and every time things ease, what I can do seems to be even more restricted.  Like now.   I haven't got much to say as not much has happened.  Read a fair bit: started reading both 'Medical Grade Music' (by Steve Davis (yep! him, the snooker bloke) and Kavus Torabi) and 'Jolly Lad' (John Doran, of 'The Quietus' fame's autobiography.) Spent a couple of hours on the phone to my mate in Berlin, putting the world to rights. As the day progressed the carers noticed that my wife's cough, which she always has for reasons I'll not go into at this time, was sounding different, maybe a little more chesty. I listened and agreed that it did sound so not long after they left for the final call I emailed the community matron asking if she had time to pop in and check my wife over tomorrow. Lockdown Diary - Saturday 20th February 2021

Standard start to Saturday with son #1 accompanying me shopping - he was up in plenty of time primarily because he didn't actually go to bed until after shopping and breakfast. After cutting my hair it's time for the usual boring chores, whilst finding time to keep in touch with friends.   After lunch I had a call from my mother-in-law, which is becoming a regular feature of Saturday, not least because I appear to be the only person she speaks to most weeks.  After more than an hour the conversation comes to a natural end and I go and ask son #2 if he's up for a walk a bit later, and he is so we agree to go at around 4:30 p.m. (he does have get dressed, after all) In the meantime I discover that the Royal Mail has finally delivered the letter I sent on Wednesday, which I am relieved about. Lockdown Diary - Friday 16th April 2021

Purpose. Porpoise. Lost.   An early morning check of my emails confirms that the community matron will be paying my wife a visit today, so that's a bit of good news. More fun on the PC as I confirm Saturday's shopping order with the help of all three sons.  I'm still not able to go shopping, though in all honesty, it's not something I miss, apart from the fresh bread, cakes and pastries from the market. After the main carer call the community matron plus community matron in training paid my wife a visit.  Oxygen sats were normal but her temperature was oddly low and the CM said previously my wife's temperature has dropped just before an infection takes hold. Listening to her chest via stethoscope found a rattling in her right lung and this confirmed she is just starting another infection. The CM was very impressed with the carers for spotting the signs so early and said we were lucky to have such good carers, which I absolutely agree with, as it's something I kn...

Lockdown Diary - Thursday 12th November 2020

Today I'm on leave to celebrate my wife's birthday, though as this coincides with cleaner day, I still have to get up early, though I did manage to sneak 30 minutes extra in bed.  Thursday is a good day to celebrate her birthday as it's one of the two days each week she is lifted out of her bed into her special tilt-in-space chair, if only for 10 to 15 minutes. Since son #2 is working today and son #3 has lectures at uni, the current plan is that when H goes into her chair, I'll give her my cards and presents and also any others that have already arrived.  The boys will share theirs with her, as and when. Getting things organised, birthday-wise, was interrupted by a call from an unknown mobile number, which turned out to be the specialist nurse from endoscopy from the hospital.  They want to book my wife in to have her PEG replaced, which ended up being a long discussion about the pros and cons of the two types of PEG.
