Tales From The Crypt - Wednesday 1st September 2021

Not a lot to say, as it's another working day...

...until the early evening when it's time for my yoga class for the week. Unusually, I am the only one present, which means I get one-to-one tuition for the first time since my 'try-out' some three years ago. Jeez! I've been doing yoga for more than three years!!

It's quite an intense session, with the teacher pushing me but also able to see exactly what I'm doing and correcting my poses accordingly. Afterwards I'm hot, but feel really privileged to have had an unexpected personal tuition session.

There's only two of us for dinner again tonight - the shape of things to come - and son #2 has everything in-hand whilst I put away the yoga stuff and change out of my yoga gear.

We watched the end of the 'Laurel Canyon' documentary which was interesting even though not all the music was my cup of tea, after which we took the bins/rubbish out and then I got ready for bed, sleep and oblivion.

Got up early to get out and do the weekly shop, with son #3.  Busy house around 7 a.m., as sons 1 and 2 are off out walking with some of their mates in the Chilterns (starting in Great Missenden) for the day. I fear they may get wet, but as it's preparation for a few days walking in the Lake District in early September, they may as well be prepared. Meanwhile son #3 and I were food shopping, a tedious chore which I've grown to dislike with a vengeance: the sooner it's over, the better. This week, apart from sharing the burden with son #3, which reduces to the tedium significantly, things were improved by the return of Bertie's Breadstall to the Saturday market.  Their bread is exceptionally good, the only problem is, we're spoilt for choice.  Son #3 was very happy as he managed to get a cinnamon swirl for Sunday's breakfast. Love, Poetry and Revolution - Thursday 4th May 2023

Another day, another walk.  I'm always trying new things to see if I can change for the better.  I'm experimenting with a protein-based breakfast. Allegedly you feel fuller for longer and don't need to eat snacks, which are my downfall.  So far, the experiment is working.  I can happily wait until at least two in the afternoon before I feel the need to eat again, based on having breakfast between eight-thirty and nine. More news from the from the frontiers of science.  I am now mu own guinea pig. Squeaker to be installed at a later date. On this day in 1939, James Joyce's most excellent novel, 'Finnegans Wake' was published.  Work has been today's focus along with the (brief) return of son #3 to vote and the return of son #1, who also voted, but is staying. Tales From The Crypt - Wednesday 15th June 2022

The final working day of my week, and it's going to be a busy one.  What sort of insane brain wiring makes me feel guilty about being on leave tomorrow so soon after being off ill? At one point I seriously thought about cancelling some of my leave in order to progress the project I'm working on.  Luckily, sanity prevailed and I turned my thinking around. It would appear that the Protestant work ethic is deeply ingrained. It's getting a bit late to fix that and I'm clearly failing my Idler entrance exam. Notwithstanding all that soul searching and hand wringing, I have work to get on with, and so today will be another day of few words. Probably. Social services interrupted my productive day to check if it was OK for E to come home tomorrow.  Swiftly followed by a call from the hospital ward admin person to confirm transport has been booked for tomorrow.  Now it just has to happen. Lockdown Diary - Friday 7th August 2020

As there was nothing especially pressing today, I had a lie-in until about 10 to 7, in time for the first carer visit of the day at about 5 past.  That gives me enough time to greet her in something more than my birthday suit - which I save for special occasions, naturellement: after all, I don't want to get it creased or dirty, do I? After she'd left, with less of a smile on her face than if I had been sporting my birthday suit, I showered, got dressed and made my usual week day breakfast. At the weekend, all bets are off, now that Costa and Bertie's Bread stall have returned. After all that excitement, it was time to lash myself to the mast of my work laptop and get prepared for a stormy day ahead (not Daniels, but metaphorically meteorological!) And lo! He came among us, spreading his stories of good news across the land. Tales From The Crypt - Bonfire Night (Friday 5th November 2021)

After a quiet day primarily dedicated to work, it's hard to know where to begin or to know what to write. I think I've done to death all the variations on 'it's a working day, so not much to say', so I don't want to trot that tired cliché out again. Unusually for a Friday, I haven't even left the house, so there's no vein of interactions to mine there.   I have had a few conversations with a friend and begun making some plans for November and December, which has been fun.  In the evening I listened to some music on random play before starting to make dinner for son #2 and I. Son #2 is planning an evening with his gf, so I'll probably eat my dinner  and watch something before attempting to catch up on the multi-day sleep backlog I'm owed (ain't gonna happen!!)
