Love, Poetry and Revolution - Wednesday 4th January

Today is Q's official birthday and once we're all up and ready we start the day with a walk to the 'hood café for a celebration brunch. 

After brunch Q and I hang out whilst her mum and daughter went to the shops.

In the evening we headed to town for a surprise meal in honour of Q's birthday.  Surprise, in that Q didn't know where we were going, though she did know we were going out.

We had great fun, with some excellent prosecco, and took in the Christmas lights, which were still brightening up the docks.

Home for an early night as some of our merry band are getting up early tomorrow.

I'm off to Liverpool today! Yay! Before I can go, though, I must finish packing, check E's supplies, make sure the carers know where I'll be (and all that goes with that), and make sure sons 1 and 2 are sorted and there are no outstanding questions. At around 10:30 a.m. I'm ready to hit the road (jack, though I will be coming back).  I will make a detour via the shops to post a poo sample (bowel cancer test, not hate mail, just to be clear), and buy some food and a coffee (all of which are cheaper than on the motorway).   In the supermarket, I was ambushed by a Snickers bar, so I added that to my basket too. I've arrived in L'pool, after a brief natural break. After unloading, I watch two more episodes of 'Happy Valley', series 2.  I'm not good at binge-watching (I always feel guilty about watching TV and feel I should be using my time better) and so stop at this point and read more of 'Ulysses'. Love, Poetry and Revolution - Easter Monday (Monday 10th April 2023)

It's a bank holiday Monday and it's raining. That's unusual. Today is a day for catching up with people: I owe several people a reply and I am also overdue speaking to my big sis. My plan is to have a day of catching up interspersed with a bit of learning Spanish courtesy of Duolingo.  An uneventful day is coming to a close, next step dinner.  There's been a change of plans and it's now easiest if we have a takeaway.  We've ordered Japanese food, including sashimi, as I've had too many chips lately. Whilst we wait, I start watching the first episode of the latest series of 'Race Across The World'. Variety is the spice of life. Once the food arrives - and very good it looks indeed - we watch the second episode of 'Blue Lights'.  This is a really good series and I now have a new catchphrase: 'Don't be a notebook wanker'.  Excellent. Tales From The Crypt - Monday 6th December 2021

Not quite the Monday I had expected, so reluctantly I had to give up yoga for this week. E is coming home from hospital and it's not absolutely clear when she'll arrive, so I'll need to set things up and coordinate with the care agency. Nevertheless I'm happy to give up yoga to get E back home again. I started the day with a walk and talk followed by a trip to the shops to pick up meds, some Christmas food shopping, especially cards, and a search for a two-person turkey crown/joint. The turkey search was unsuccessful as there seems to be far less turkey around than in previous years, perhaps because it's coming into stores later this year. After returning from the shops I was surprised by the arrival of our Christmas trees, which I wasn't expecting until the afternoon. Good job hadn't gone to yoga! Not quite My Favourite Albums of 2019

This has been a long time in the making, but finally, almost a month into 2019, I've almost listened to all the albums I have from 2018.  If I don't complete this look back soon it'll be overtaken by the new albums from 2019 - and there already are some great albums from January and even more promised in February. (I should also add that albums I missed in 2018 are still being brought to my attention, this includes albums by Jonathan Wilson ('Rare Birds'), Steve Gunn ('The Unseen In Between') and Rezzett ('Rezzett LP')). Before I get into the top ten list I ought to say something about the albums that haven't made the list.  That's the subject of this post. Honourable mentions I guess you'd call these.  There were a lot of good albums in 2018, many of which contain 4 or 5 great songs or tunes, often including a smattering of other good tracks but, ultimately not enough to make the top 10. Lockdown Diary - Thursday 30th July 2020

Blimey! The cleaner's keen, she's rung the bell before 7 a.m. - I didn't even notice the bell ring 'cos I was showering and didn't expect her before 10 past.  Glanced a at the camera and there she was. Guess it could be worse, could be the grim reaper that early. He'd get short shrift that's for sure - wouldn't even open the door.  For whom the bell tolls...  Never mind it's all kicking off now.  Not even dressed yet or finished my exercises, and the first carer of the day arrives! No peace for the wicked, goddamn it! By the time I'd made my breakfast, the cleaner had done my office and the extension, so I retreated there to eat my porridge and drink my coffee  in peace, whilst she cleaned the kitchen.  It's good to have the cleaner back - the house looks so much tidier.
